THE stewards welcomed everyone to the Sunday morning service at 10.30am, led by Iain Ballard. Two readings were taken from the New Testament, hymns were sung and offerings were taken.

The evening service, at 6.30pm, was taken by rev Barbara Garwood. Holy Communion was celebrated.

The Olive Tree

SUNDAY morning worship was a celebration of the grace of God, with many prayers and songs. The Pastor brought a message assuring us that even when we fail, God still loves us.

Countess Church

REV Richard Neville from Christchurch, New Zealand, led the services on Sunday. In the morning he spoke about Our Story and the World's Story, emphasising God's world mission which is also our mission. Paul Coghlan led worship. Later, Richard spoke from the gospel of Matthew about the disciple Peter's meeting with Jesus, his understanding of his role as a new Christian and the need for us to understand our role in meeting the needs of others.

Next Sunday service with cr�che and Sunday School is at 10.30am and evening service at 6.30pm. All are welcome.

New Connexions @ High Barns

(Free Church)

THE question asked of us on Sunday was 'who do you say I am'? as we looked at Philippians Ch2. Children's Club thought about the angel's message to Mary of giving birth to God's son, and went on to paint the Christian fish symbol 'ichthys' to make a stained glass effect, with the message of John ch3 v16.

Next week we look at 'God - Part 3'

We meet each Sunday in the Theatre at St Mary's School 10.30am. Plenty of tea, coffee and time for chat. Children's Club and cr�che also running during the morning too, so why not pop along and meet us?

Ely Group CSRF

ELY Group enjoyed a talk at the June meeting, given by Chris Donaldson on the escape route through the Pyrenees.

The next meeting will be held at 2pm on July 21 at Ely Community College when Richard Bozeat will discuss the History of the Windsor Chair.

There will not be a meeting in August.

Parish Church

MORNING Prayer at St Michael's and All Angels on Sunday was led by Piers Coutts. The organist was Beth Stokes. The first lesson was read by Robin Aylott and the offertory was presented by Lee Howard.

HADDENHAM

Methodist Church

MORE than �100 was raised on Saturday morning in the High Street for Action for Children, a Methodist foundation, celebrating 140 years of helping vulnerable children. Two pence coins brought in over �30 and one man arrived with a shopping bag full of coins for the appeal. Another resident had grown house and garden plants to sell and added more to the cause.

Sunday's service was based on the growth and development of the National Children's Homes and if any reader would like a collecting box into which they could put loose change then the circuit secretary, Barbara Galley, would like to hear from you.

Older residents will appreciate the seat which was given in memory of the Rev Fred Clifford; it is now situated in front of the church building to enable a welcome rest when climbing up the hill. Mums with small children are very welcome to use it as a meeting point too.

This Sunday a Circuit United service at 3pm will be held at Ely Methodist Church to celebrate fund-raising for a school in Africa and the morning service here at Haddeham will be taken by Georgina Newell from Soham.

A warm welcome is extended to one and all.

Baptist Chapel

DAVID welcomed everyone and gave out the notices: The Home Group will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Faith Rocks will be on Friday. The Rev Tom Chippers' Thanks-giving Service is on July 26 at 5pm at Isleham.

The musicians for the morning were Joyce, Alan, Josh on the drums and Ruth led the singing. Jim read Psalm 4, followed by prayers and songs. Nathanial and Rachel took up the offering, followed by prayer. Nathan, Josh and Gabrielle told about their time at Rave in the Nave at Ely Cathedral on Friday evening. This was followed by songs and prayers. Jim read John 20, v19 to 21. The theme for his sermon was 'Thomas - a very contemporary disciple'. This was followed by Holy Communion, songs, prayers and Benediction.

LITTLEPORT

St George's Church

SUNDAY: The vicar presided and preached at the 8am Holy Communion and the 10am Parish Eucharist at which Jane Harris delivered the sermon. The 6.30pm Evening Service was held at St. John's and the preacher was John Marshall.

Saturday: 10am-2pm - St George's Summer Fayre. Admission Free. Organ recital at lunchtime. Lots of stalls, Raffle, Teddies' Zip Wire, Ice Creams and refreshments.

The Vine Community Church

LIVELY non-denominational Christian church meeting at The Regal on Hempfield Road.

Sunday: 10:30 am service with contemporary music worship and sermon by Pastor Don Gee. Youth and children's Sunday School is provided during the sermon and cr�che is open throughout the service from 10.15am. refreshments available after service. The Summer Children's Holiday Club will be held on August 10-14 from 10am-noon. The theme this year will be Champions Challenge! This is a joint venture with the other churches in Littleport.

We have a tent at the Littleport Show on July 25. The theme will be "time travel" in the style of Dr Who. If you are interested in helping please contact Don.

This week small groups will be meeting to fellowship and encourage one another in their designated homes.

Littleport Ely and District Spiritualists Church (LEADS)

SERVICE held every Thursday at 7.30pm in the village hall, Victoria Street. Doors open at 6.40pm for spiritual healing which ends at 7.20pm. This is

free to all who would like to receive healing. To close the service there are light refreshments and an opportunity to discuss the service and make new friends.

Women's Institute

LINDA Harvey welcomed members and guests to the meeting on July 9.

Ray Nimmo and his wife Irene were introduced as the demonstrators.

Ray showed how he paints pictures in the Bob Ross way. After about 40 minutes he had completed the picture of mountains and lake. Whilst painting he explained what he was doing and entertained us with jokes.

He very kindly donated the picture to the raffle which will be used to raise money for charity at the Barn Dance on October 29.

Shelagh Connor warmly thanked him for his demonstration and donation of the picture.

There were nine entries in the competition of a painted stone.

Linda reminded members of the Littleport Show on July 25 when the WI will be serving refreshments. Members were asked to make cakes.

Littleport will be hosting the group meeting on September 24 in the village hall. This will be an open meeting for both members and non-members. The speaker will be Neil Lanham with a rural narrative in story, song and screen having an interest in heavy horses.

THE United Family service was taken by the Rev Margaret Harper, joining with friends from the Baptist Chapel, preaching about standing up for Christ. Music was provided by the band.

Heartbeat Health Walk

ON July 6 35 walkers plus the two leaders Liz Gwinnett and David Clarke took part in a walk of 3.5 miles around Soham.

Phoenix Club

JANNICE Kinnear welcomed everyone to the meeting on July 8. The speaker was Crown Court deputy manager Carl Pool who gave an informative talk on 'life at the Crown Court'. Members were invited to ask questions. Jill Powley thanked Carl and presented him with a token gift. Refreshments were served and there was a raffle.

The next meeting will be on September 9 at 9.30am for a 9.45 start. The speaker will be Paula Dolan.

Over 60's Club

ON July 6 members of the Over 60's Club enjoyed an outing to Lowestoft.

On July 8 Ruth Ginn welcomed members and guests to the meeting. They enjoyed an afternoon of nostalgia with Eric Mason and Tim Webb who had brought along a film of the Soham Carnival (1960 and 1961) and also the street parties in Brook Street and Queensway, celebrating the Queen's Silver Jubilee. Originally taken with a 8mm cine film by the village college film makers group, Eric and Tim had put the films onto a DVD. Peggy Gibbon gave the vote of thanks.

Refreshments were served and Vera Seal organised the raffle.

The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the club hymn.

SUTTON

Photographic Group

THE July meeting fell within the Sutton Feast Week so the evening was given over to an exhibition of photographs taken by club members. Almost 100 photographs were displayed and during the evening a steady stream of visitors came to view.

Visitors were asked to pick out their favourite photograph from the exhibits and the winner, with two of his entries each gaining five points, was Ian Stacey. The photos were 'a sleeping swan' and 'a sprinkling of snow'.

Club meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at Sutton Pavilion. New members welcome.
