St Peter's Church

SUNDAY'S celebrant and preacher at the 9.15am Sung Eucharist will be Canon Nigel Abbot, and he will again be the celebrant at the said Holy Communion on September 1 at 10am.

Methodist Church

THE stewards welcomed everyone to Sunday's service at 10.30am which was led by Rev Barbara Garwood. Holy Communion was celebrated. The evening service at 6.30pm was led by Ian Weatherall. The musicians were Pam Austin and Janice Weatherall.

Thursday: noon to 1.30pm - Shoppers' Lunch.

Sunday: 10.30am - morning service led by David Middleton; 6.30pm - evening service with John Seaman. The musicians will be Donald Monk and Ginny Klein.

The Olive Tree

THE central theme of Sunday's morning worship and preaching was the fire of God - the fire of His holiness and His judgment, but also the fire that signifies His acceptance. The children in Sunday School looked ahead to begin the planning of the new term's programme.

Sunday: 10.30am (including Holy Communion). Tim Frost, Elder in the Olive Tree, will speak on prayer. Crèche and Sunday School will be provided.

From 10am until noon on Friday the Open Door Café will offer refreshments and a pleasant setting for meeting and making friends. All welcome.

Flower Club

THE next meeting of the City of Ely Flower Club will include the AGM and will be held on September 3 at 6.45pm at the Community College in Downham Road. The demonstrator will be Barbara Collins with her theme 'shades of Autumn.

CHETTISHAM

Parish Church

CELEBRANT and preacher at St Michael and All Angels on Sunday was Rev John Samson. The organist was Beth Stokes. The first lesson was read by Geoff Briggs and the offertory was presented by Michael Richer.

This Sunday Morning Prayer will be held at 9.15am.

HADDENHAM

Baptist Chapel

DAVID welcomed everyone and gave out the notices. The Home Group will be on Thursday at 46 Duck Lane. Joyce, David, Alan and Eddie were the musicians and Ruth led the singing. Jim read a Psalm, followed by prayer and song. Jim spoke to the children and showed them a video about the Lockerbie disaster and explained about the crash. He then spoke of "Back to Church Sunday", reminding everyone to bring a friend. Ann and Sylvia took up the offering. Prayers were said for Pauline's sister-in-law Emily, Diana, Kate, Bob, Molly and Myra. Pauline spoke about "answered prayers", followed by songs. Jim read 1 John, 43 to 52. The theme for his sermon was "come and see something good can come from Nazareth". The service closed with a prayer and everyone said the grace to each other.

Sunday: the service will be taken by the Rev Jim Mullin.

LITTLEPORT

St John's Methodist Church

SUNDAY: 10.45am - Morning Worship with the Rev Dick Prior with celebration of Holy Communion; 6.30pm - Evening Worship with Tony Murfitt.

Saturday (September 5): 9-11am - Coffee Morning.

Sunday (September 6): 10.45 - Morning Worship with Colin Nickless; 6.30pm - Evening Worship with the Rev Barbara Garwood including Holy Communion.

St George's Church

THE vicar presided and preached at Holy Communion and Parish Eucharist. John Marshall led the 6.30pm Evensong and the preacher was the Rev Barbara Garwood.

Sunday: the vicar will preside and preach at the 8am Holy Communion. She will preside at the 10am Parish Eucharist when Carol Swain will deliver the sermon.

Tuesday: 12.30pm - Daily Prayer.

Wednesday: 9.30am - Holy Communion; 7.30pm - Old Time Music Hall and Magic Shoe in the Village Hall. Tickets available at door. All are welcome.

Friday: (September 4), Junior Choir Practice at 6pm; 7.30pm - senior choir practice; 9pm - Compline.

Saturday: (September 5) 9am - Men's Breakfast Club in the Parish Room.

Littleport and Ely District Spiritualist

THE weekly service is held in the village hall in Victoria Street on Thursdays. Doors open at 6.40pm for healing and this is free to all who would like to have healing. The Devine Service begins at 7.30pm and this week the visiting medium is Barbara Price. The evening is closed with refreshments and time for a chat with like-minded people. There will be no service on September 3 and the details for the following week are still to be announced.

LITTLE THETFORD

Baptist Church

ROB Booth was the guest preacher on Sunday morning and spoke from Matthew 11 and John 7.

Sunday: morning service at 10.30am will be conducted by Lloyd Wilson. There will be a Coffee Morning on Tuesday (September 1) at 10am to raise money for the Friends of Princess of Wales Hospital.

St George's Church

REV Margaret Harper and Scott Eversman officiated at the morning service on Sunday. Margaret's message was from Ephesians 5: 'Put on the whole armour of God'.

Next Sunday the service of Morning Praise at 9.30am will be conducted by Rev Margaret Harper.

SOHAM

Methodist Church

SUNDAY worship at 10am was led by Colin Nickless. There was no evening service.

Sunday: worship at 10am will be led by the Rev Edwin Myers and will include Holy Communion. Evening worship will be led by Ken Brown.

Ann and Sarah Willett's coffee morning will be held tomorrow (28) at Byways, Barcham Road, from 10am till noon. Proceeds to Soham Methodist Church funds. Everyone is welcome to go along.

The total raised by the sponsored walk and barbecue now stands at £1,000 thanks to further donations received. Thank you all for support and generosity.

STRETHAM

Over 60's Club

MEMBERS watched films, which were brought in by chairman Deryk Ellwood, of the Lake District, Scotland and Norway. He also showed photographs of his own garden. Tea and biscuits were served by Patrick and Pauline Regan and Bet Bidwell. A raffle was held. Birthday greetings were sung for Joan Lowe. Members played cards and runner beans and raspberries were raffled.

The meeting closed with the Club Hymn.

WARDY HILL

Dominoes

THERE were four tables in play at the dominoes held on August 14 in the social club when Mrs M Dewsbery was MC. Winners were: A Bell, Mrs M Dewsbery, Mrs O Newell, Mrs M Coulson, Mrs P Martin, J Hines and Mrs D Perrin. Highest halves: Mrs E Tillyard and Mrs J Crown; Consolation: B Copping; Draw: Mrs E Tillyard, J Hines, Miss G Canham, Mrs P Martin and B Copping.

WITCHFORD

St Andrew's Church

REV Teresa Dixon was the celebrant on Sunday.

Sunday: Holy Eucharist is at 10.30am, Evensong at 6pm.

Tuesday: Holy Communion at 10am.

Next family service is on September 6.

Toddler Praise service 2pm on September 9.

Thanks to Fiona Brampton and her helpers for all their thought and hard work to produce a memorable Holiday Club, travelling back in time in the Fens to 1109, enjoyed by all the children.
