The children of Littleport are being well catered for this Easter. Yes! We are calling it Easter here. None of your cheerless, nameless eggs, or let’s give the kids a half-term disco.
The Littleport Leisure Centre is putting on a children’s Easter Disco, Saturday (15) at 6pm - 9pm. And Easter Sunday there is a Children’s Easter Egg Hunt.
The Ex-Servicemen’s Club also hosts a Children’s Easter Disco on Easter Sunday at 4pm.
Grown-ups are expected to enjoy themselves this Easter too. The Swan on the River has Karaoke Friday evening, and if you have a voice left, more Karaoke fun at the Plough and Harrow on Saturday night at 9pm.
The Phoenix Show Band are at the historic Crown Inn on Saturday, 8.30pm until late, and Sunday afternoon, Carla Garry is appearing from 3pm - 6pm.

As for the religious among us, if you’re a Protestant Christian, all the churches in Littleport are having various Easter services over this weekend. However, the Catholics who live here must travel into Ely to St Etheldreda’s in Egremont Street, for their Easter worship. There’s a service this Good Friday (14) at 3pm; a vigil that starts 8pm Saturday night, and two Masses at 9am and 11am on Sunday.
Spiritualists (NCSS) have their regular Thursday meeting with mediumship in Littleport’s village hall, and today, Maundy Thursday, is always a special one.

Mind you, we don’t need any excuse to have a good time in this village whether of any spiritual/religious persuasion or none.
But there is a serious side to Littleport of course. Lots of heated discussions going on about the forthcoming local elections for the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and Cambs County Councillor to represent Littleport...
Now the latter role, like the England football manager’s job, could prove to be a poisoned chalice! The incumbent of the last four years, for instance, has not been described in glowing terms shall we say, by many of those he was supposed to represent! But perhaps the next one, whoever gets most votes in the expected poor turn-out, will do, and fare, better.
I remember the olden days when the Littleport Notice Board was where info written on bits of paper and small posters were pinned on it with thumb-tacks near the shops.
Now in this modern age, we have it on a social media platform, and with its many posts and comments it’s a very lively forum indeed on Facebook, with 3,003 members.
