Crown Lane of course is famous with bikers from all over the country, no little thanks to Mark Robinson, president of the 363 Motor Cycle Club.

Mark and his club-mates put on a major fund-raising event at the Crown Inn every May, and last year Crown Lane was closed to traffic and became a park and display venue for many spectacular bikes and their fans!

The Harley Motorbike Memorial is a hundred yards away down Church Lane, and the main door into the historic pub is on Main Street.

There’s always a fly-past, low over said junction, arranged by Mark and 363MCC, and plans for this year’s ‘Crowning Around’ are well under way.

For those people yet too young to ride, Joanne Coe, of Littleport Events, is the driving force along with her helpers, behind the 14 years-old this month, youth initiative, called ThePort.

With 164 registered members, Jo provides various activities.

On Mondays, ‘ThePort Youth Café’ for primary school Years 5 and 6 and The Port on Thursdays from 5.30pm to 7pm that caters for Year 7 and upwards college students, is very popular, and there are many organised, interesting days out, as well.

Both Mark and Joanne were nominated for the Littleport Parish Council’s ‘Citizen of the Year’ award, along with Elaine Lee, who has been instrumental in getting, and keeping, the food bank up and running in the village this year, along with Councillor Susan Green; and who also with Susan Green, set up the ‘You Are Not Alone’ social group, aka YANA.

It must be an almost impossibly hard job to choose from all the many people of Littleport who do so much for the village and for others. You could say that good people here are historically in the ascendency over those few of bad intention.

We all know that King Canute gave Littleport its name, replacing its huts with more substantial dwellings, after the local hospitality shown him.

But did you know he also named England, England, in 1017?

There’s a 1000th anniversary show at the village hall, Sunday at 3pm, called ‘The First King of England - in a dress’
