The shop, at 12 High Street, currently has 17 volunteers but needs more for Saturdays to help with processing and sorting donations.

Simon Garner, Shop Manager, said: “Come and play. Tea and biscuits on tap. Fun and laughter and all for a good cause.”

Anybody interested is welcome to call Simon on 01353 863561 or he said: “Pop in the shop anytime and say hello and tell us you want to help.”

The charity has recently been awarded the Living Wage accreditation.

It means that for any paid employees, regardless of whether they are permanent employees or third-party contractors and suppliers, receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.25 - significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £6.70.

The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually according to the basic cost of living.

Susan Wiggans, general manager, said: “Branching Out took the decision to become a Living Wage employer because we want the best for the vulnerable people we support and that means investing in and valuing our staff.”

Employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis.

Living Wage Foundation Director, Sarah Vero said: “We have accredited over 2,000 leading employers, including Branching Out, ranging from independent printers, bookshops and breweries, to well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE. These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business.”
