Well, Christmas is upon us. And in the run-up to the festival there has been a lot of preliminary merry-making in Littleport.
Joanne Coe’s Christmas bingo at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Pont’s Hill was a huge success.
Also held and hosted by the Ex-Servicemen’s Club itself (where you don’t have to be ex-services to join) the children’s Christmas disco was also a sell-out.
The Plough and Harrow at 61 Ely Road was bustling, as has that other historic 1816 riot venue, The Crown Inn, on the corner of Crown Lane and Main Street.
Littleport’s cafes and dine in restaurants, and take-aways, have been buzzing with business too.
Charity has been going on apace, with foodbank collections etc., and literally at speed with the 363MCC delivering toys to Addenbrooke’s, and a group from Littleport achieving their aim of a 100mile bicycle ride to Hunstanton and back to raise money for Little Miracles.
Thinking of older people, there are some very good residential care homes in Littleport, who make it a good Christmas for residents, but there are also lots of people who would rather have care in their own homes.
And they are catered for by one of the care at home companies, based in Littleport, ‘Love Life Care’ run by Katie Vanputten and Amanda Sealey.
Now they are looking for more kind and caring staff. If you’re interested, pay is £8.50-£10 an hour, and you need to have a car. Get in touch on 07715807838.
Back to youngsters, this Saturday, December 23, the new Littleport Gymnastics Club has a Christmas display to show everyone their newly acquired skills.
Starting at 6pm at the Leisure Centre, there is also a grand raffle to raise money for more equipment with loads of amazing prizes donated by local businesses, including a free MOT from GTR and a family portrait by GVanns Photography.
This Christmas weekend, it’s Bingo Christmas Eve. ‘Eyes down’ 7.30pm at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club. The Crown’s Christmas Eve Disco 7.30-11pm. Boxing Day, Greg from 8.30pm until late. The Plough and Harrow open until late Christmas Eve. And Christmas Day and Boxing Day, 12-4pm.
I would like to wish you, and your family and friends, a very happy Christmas from me, pleased to be Lyn of Littleport.
