There are ghostly goings on in Littleport Library. Not all the time I hasten to add, but on Friday (February 2) at 7.30pm Robert Lloyd Parry will perform, ‘Oh Whistle’ - two ghost stories written by MR James.
Hopefully you won’t have had a sleepless night after hearing these tales of witchcraft and vengeance down the ages, and that next morning February 3, awaking refreshed, you might visit the historic, and possibly haunted, although much less frightening, Heritage centre in Main Street, where the bustling Adams Community Market is held on the first Saturday of every month.
Along with many traders selling their wholesome wares, like jars of local honey, the Littleport nutritionist Joanne Cole has a table selling her ‘Nourishing4You’ products.
And if you go to the market, you could always drop in to the many other shops in the centre of Littleport. Get your hair cut or coiffed, have a tattoo done, or have a snack - or even a meal!
And you can choose an inn that feeds you in style like the Plough and Harrow, or the Swan on the River, or just to slake a thirst at the Crown!
There’s the new family run Supermarket Cheap in the old Holmes Furnishers shop premises with plenty of useful and cheap household items.
And near them is the more exotic Lithuanian food and drinks shop run by Rima.
Interestingly we have people of Kurdish origin offering good services to Littleport too. Including ‘The Codfather’ selling very tasty fish and chips.
If you’re into bric-a-brac or pre-loved items, there is a veritable Aladdin’s Cave at Branching Out in the High Street. Manager Simon Garner and his volunteer staff are always pleased to help.
The shop supports the adults with learning difficulties’ centre in Grange Lane.
The users refurbish donated furniture to a standard of work worthy of the best furnishing boutiques.
For a nice break, this Saturday night at the Plough and Harrow (3) you can be entertained while you eat and drink by the Jimi Whitewolf band. On Sunday afternoon the Crown Inn has Mikki Jons from 3-6pm
You’ll be pleased to hear that the bees who make Highfields Honey did not get the roofs blown off their hives in the recent high winds. Mr and Mrs Henderson-Green plonked lumps of wood atop them all to good effect.
