A collection on Waterbeach village green, in aid of Ely Food Bank, showed the community at its most generous.
Members of the newly formed Waterbeach (Beach) Labour group were on hand on Saturday to take deliveries of food to pass on to the food bank, which distributes it to people going hungry in the district.
Organiser Gareth Wright said: “The collection in Waterbeach was a great success, local people were incredibly generous.
“The collection also helped to highlight this issue with many people shocked to discover there was now also a food bank in Cottenham.
“The feedback on the local social media site (Waterbeach babble) has been very positive and we intend to make this a regular event.”
