RAIN-SOAKED shoppers turned out in force for the Ely Standard's charity coffee morning on Thursday and helped us to raise £120 for Liam's Fund.
Visitors were glad to contribute to Liam's Fund in return for a hot drink and selection of home-made cakes prepared by editor Debbie Davies.
The coffee morning and raffle has helped boost the money that Liam has helped to raise for CLIC Sargent to £150,000.
The Ely Standard website also reported on Friday that Liam has undergone nine hours of gruelling lung surgery. The 13-year-old was admitted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and underwent the surgery last Wednesday. He had two lobes taken from his right lung, which equates to 50% of the right side.
Liam was discharged from hospital on Tuesday and his dad Mark says he is in good spirits.
"His courage and strength never cease to amaze us and he was a real star in hospital with all the nurses fighting over him," said Mark.
"We have appointments with the orthopaedic team regarding straightening his leg, but we have decided to give him a break from surgery unless anything imperative or necessary comes along. Liam's fundraising has now reached £150 and he has been nominated for two fund-raiser of the year awards."
The Ely Standard would like to thank everyone who braved the elements and came to the coffee morning and also to the following companies for donating raffle prizes.
AdeC, Star FM Radio, Brands Garden Centre, Simply Flowers, Inspirations Spiritual Centre and Gift Shop, Cherry Hill Chocolates, and several residents who donated prizes and prepared cakes.
