PUPILS at Soham Village College filled Ely Cathedral for the school's biggest ever annual carol concert.

Some 350 performers, including staff and former pupils, took part and principal Dr Carin Taylor said the evening was a great success.

"Ex students, family members and staff joined the ranks of the orchestra and choirs to leave a strong sense of a vibrant all-age community engaged in the celebration of Christmas," she said.

Highlights of the concert included a performance of Derek Hobbs' Greatest Show on Earth, sung by a large proportion of the school's year 7 students, and solos from Jackson Mathod, Naomi Rogers, Emma Fowler, Madeleine Hickish, Annabel Gipp and James Holden.

The college also announced a donation of £500 to year 7 student Liam Fairhurst's Clic Sargent appeal.

Liam will swim a mile tomorrow (Fri) to raise money for the children's cancer charity.

Dr Taylor said: "My thanks to all who took part under the guidance of teaching staff, Steve Kenna, Lisa Field and Angela Bocking.
