A young people’s choir based in Ely has been nominated among the best new children’s activities in the UK in a national awards scheme.

GO Sing! has been nominated in the what’s on awards for the website whatson4littleones.

Choir founder Kathryn Rowland said: “I am really pleased and excited as you get nominated by the parents, and also after only one term they did a great performance for their family and friends.

“GO Sing! started in January 2015 and is for young people aged eight to 17 years. Music to Grow to, my early years music work, has also been nominated in the same awards, for best local activity for under five’s, again all nominated by the parents, so really pleased.

“After 10 years of running classes it shows it is all still going well, as well as Ofsted saying “outstanding” teaching in my sessions.”

GO Sing! and Music to Grow attract families from Ely and surrounding villages.

Ms Rowland developed Sing! Choirs as an opportunity for people to sing in a choir regardless of their experience.

Starting with one choir in 2011 there are now four that meet each week with more than 250 people in total.

Choirs are open to all ages and no previous experience is needed. The choirs range in size from 40 to 100 members.

On Saturday April 4 two coaches will take 100 people from the Sing! choirs groups to the Royal Festival Hall to sing as part of the Southbank Centre Festival.
