A bottle of whiskey, a dozen eggs and even a teddy bear have been received as gifts by members of staff at East Cambridgeshire District Council.

A Freedom of Information Act request revealed that council staff had received dozens of gifts from members of the public and businesses as thanks for their hard work over the last two years.

Among the more unusual gifts was a dozen eggs given to environmental services staff member, Louise Wright. The eggs were given to her by Westmoor House Smallholding, in Littleport.

Richard Warren was the lucky recipient of a teddy bear from a member of the public in the run up to Christmas while Stephen Carrington received a bottle of whiskey, though the name of the gift-giver was redacted by the district council.

And it wasn’t only members of the public who have gifts to hard-working staff, Liberal Democrat councillors Gareth and Pauline Wilson gave a box of Thornton’s chocolates to finance chief, Linda Grinnell.

The most popular gift given to staff members was chocolates, with eight boxes recorded as gifts. Wine was the next most popular gift, with five gifts recorded.

According to the estimates of staff, the total value of gifts received over the two years came to more than £450.
