Young people in Cambridgeshire are being encouraged to test for chlamydia as regularly as they have their teeth checked at the dentist.

They are being offered the chance to test for chlamydia in the comfort of their own home by the Terrence Higgins Trust, the UK’s leading HIV and sexual health charity.

Results are sent by text within 10 days.

Darcy Weaver, regional manager at Terrence Higgins Trust, said: “We want young people to get into a routine of regularly testing for STIs, like chlamydia. It should be seen as similar to getting your teeth checked at the dentist.

“Testing for chlamydia is quick and painless, and can be treated with a course of antibiotics.

“We’re urging young people in Cambridgeshire who are sexually active to come forward and get tested – even if they don’t have any symptoms.

“What’s so great is that it’s now easier than ever to look after your sexual health with these free, confidential chlamydia self-tests.”

Chlamydia is treated with a short course of antibiotics, but if left untreated can cause infertility and reactive arthritis which affects the joints.
