FIREFIGHTERS have been busy dealing with a series of chimney fires in East Cambridgeshire over the last week as temperatures have plummeted.

On Wednesday at 5.30pm, a crew from Burwell was called to a chimney fire in Quarry Lane, Swaffham Bulbeck. Firefighters used hose reels and chimney rods to extinguish the fire.

The following day, the Burwell crew were called to another chimney fire, this time in North Street, Burwell at about 9.30am. Crews remained at the scene for more than three hours extinguishing the blaze.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and the brickwork inspected at least once a year. This will help to prevent a chimney fire.”
