CAMBRIDGESHIRE'S children are set to benefit from the sale of a world famous painting.
The LS Lowry painting of Berwick-upon-Tweed was bought in 1945 by Cambridgeshire county Council's chief education officer, Henry Morris, for the bargain price of 30 guineas - �31.50 in today's money. It is expected to go under the hammer at Christie's for more than �300,000, in May with all proceeds funding cultural activities for young people including lietature, film and sport activities.
Cllr David Harty, Cabinet member for Learning at Cambridgeshire County Council said: "I am very excited about the sale. The painting was a shrewd investment by Henry Morris on behalf of Cambridegshire County Council more than 60 years ago, and we believe that the time is now right to sell. All the money raised will go to the Cambridgeshire culture programme.
