Glad rags, wigs, tutus and brightly coloured leggings were out in force on the hottest day of the year when 400 children and their teachers took part in the first Race For life event at Ely St Mary’s School.

PE teacher Emma Galley decided to organise the event as she said it was a charity that affected so many people.

“It’s our first time doing this and are pleased to have smashed our fund raising target.

“It’s a charity that impacts a lot of people’s lives and we thought it would be great to get the whole school involved.”

Children had the option to run 3K or 5K in laps around the school grounds.
