THE grass field at the rear of the Cherry Tree in Soham was transformed into a camp for two opposing forces last weekend. Members of World War Two re-enactment society Kompanie 1 set up German and British tents in readiness for the visit of a larger group later in the year. Rupert Armstrong, representing the German force, practised with his MG 42 machine gun while Fallschirmjager (paratrooper) Barry Jones enjoyed his field rations.

The British forces were represented by the Royal Norfolk Regiment with medics Natasha McQuillan and Linda Chambers standing by.

The society will be returning on the weekend of September 9/10 when a full-scale 1940s weekend will also feature a big band. Licensee Martin Whitehouse is hoping that collections over the weekend will help the British Legion.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the society can visit the websites at www.kompanie1.co.uk or www.royalnorfolks.com
