Sally Talbot originally hoped to raise £300 by holding a yoga event and garden fete, but was blown away by the total.

“Wow. What can I say? We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” she said.

“The weather was perfect, the turn out was fantastic, the money raised was phenomenal. Our total now stands at £1,025.

“Everyone had such a great day, spirits were high, prizes were won and cake a plenty was eaten.

“We were supported by so many local businesses and other people, with fantastic donations to our prize draw including The Old Fire Engine House, Ely., The Almonry, Ely Cathedral, Twenty Pence Garden Centre, Jurassic Bark Pet Supplies, Vets 1 Limited and many more wonderful prizes.

“The yoga sessions were a pleasure to run, and everyone said how peaceful they felt inside The Yoga Hut, despite around 60 people in the garden outside.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed in some way. Mum would have loved it all so much, which makes for a very bittersweet event.”

The fundraiser was held in memory of Rosemary Talbot, who didn’t get to see the end result of Sally’s Yoga Hut.

“We lost our mum to cancer in September 2015,” said Sally, speaking before the event,

“She spent a short time in Arthur Rank, and we were all very frightened at the prospect of her going there.

“However, the reality is the place is amazing. Nothing is too much trouble, and the patients, as well as their families, are well cared for and provided for.

“We set up The Yoga Hut in November 2015 with the idea of sharing the benefits of meditation and yoga with as many people as possible.

“It was a godsend to me while mum was ill and continues to be a massive part of my life,” said Sally, who has been teaching yoga locally for 13 years.
