A Cambridgeshire foodstore’s fun day raised almost £1,800 for charity.

The Anglia Co-operative foodstore on Wisbech Road, Littleport, raised £899.24 for Young People Littleport (YPL).

The money was doubled by the Anglia Co-operative Community Fund (ACCF) so a cheque for £1798.48 was presented to the charity, which helps young people to develop work and life skills.

The donation will be put towards a new bike shop, which will employ young people.

Phil Malkin, YPL founder, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Littleport Anglia Co-operative foodstore and their fundraising activity which is now in its third year.

“As a charity, we rely purely on donations and the kind help of our volunteers.

“The money will be put towards a new bike shop and we will be employing young people to work there.

“There will also be the opportunity for young employees to gain an apprenticeship through employment with us.”

Chris Wright, store manager at the Littleport Co-Operative, said: “The reason we chose YPL is because they are a great local charity who reach out to every part of the community.

“The fun day was a real success and we are so pleased that we can continue helping the charity to move forward.”
