LEADING charity Care Network celebrated its 21st birthday yesterday with a tea party at Haddenham's Arkenstall Centre.

More than 2,000 volunteers work for the charity across Cambridgeshire supporting 90 Good Neighbourhood Schemes to help older and disabled residents living in their villages.

In East Cambridgeshire, the charity also runs a Welcome Home from Hospital scheme.

Chief executive, Dr Caroline Bolton-Smith, said: "These wonderful volunteers are the backbone of their local communities."

Guest speaker at the celebration was Nigel Brown, chairman of the Greater Cambridgeshire Partnership.
