An Ely man who worked at the city’s cemetery for over 20 years has been praised by the city council following his retirement.

Marcus Pinion, who worked at the cemetery for 21 years, was presented with a gift and cake from councillors Lis Every, Richard Hobbs and mayor, Ian Lindsay.

During his first years at the cemetery, Marcus was the sole employee, and Cllr Hobbs praised him for his hard work.

He said: “The cemetery is one of the best kept in the country and Marcus was a sympathetic and kindly face to all those who visited the cemetery.”
