Ely Hospital staff say they were dangerously exposed after there was no security at night for a month.
An anonymous email sent to the Ely Standard said: “Staff members working nights at Ely’s Princess of Wales Hospital have been left dangerously exposed after the site’s only CCTV monitors - located in the Minor Injuries Unit reception - stopped working over a month ago. “The monitors are linked to cameras both inside and outside the building and allow those working there to see who is coming into the building, or who is outside it.
“It’s ridiculous. There could be a gang of people breaking into cars in the car park and we would have no idea.
“Plus we have nurses leaving the building in the middle of the night and the cameras are their only protection.”
“Hospital management put an ‘urgent’ request for the monitors to be fixed nearly three weeks ago, but at the time of writing, the situation remains unchanged.
“What is it going to take for somebody to start taking our safety seriously?
“The hospital got rid of the security guards some years ago, and those cameras and monitors are the only security we have got left, and now they don’t even work.”
