THE Ely and District branch of Cats Protection says it is "overflowing" with adult cats and kittens needing a loving and permanent home.

Debbi-Jayne Challenger, press and publicity officer for the branch, said: "Rehoming is always very slow for rescue organisations over the summer months when people are on their summer holidays but with autumn well and truly on it's way, we are hoping things will pick up a bit.

"We would love to hear from people who may be able to offer a nice home to one, or maybe even two, of our cats. We have quite a few older cats in at the moment, some of whom have been in our care for some months who are desperate for a nice, cosy new home in time for the cold winter months.

"Sadly, many of our adult cats have been overlooked recently, with people preferring to give homes to kittens. Cats are living longer these days, with many surviving well into their late teens, so taking on an older cat is not a problem and all our cats are vaccinated and neutered and have been checked by a vet.

"Kittens are very cute but adult cats often make much more suitable pets for someone who is at work all day."

The cats are shared between seven fosterers who all have small catteries in their back gardens and care for the cats until a new home can be found.

If you are able to offer a loving, permanent home to one of the cats in care at the moment, contact Terri on 01353 863378 or Linda on 01353 699430.
