CAMPAIGN Amateur Theatre's production of Snow White finally went ahead at the weekend despite a catalogue of mishaps, accidents and illnesses that meant three different fairy godmothers had to be cast in a matter of weeks. One of the cast broke an arm, another was stuck down with a winter illness and one lady was, well...pregnant and trying to cope with morning sickness.

Just weeks into rehearsals David Johnson who plays the wizard was involved in a motorcycle accident and suffered multiple injuries and a replacement had to be found for him. Then, fairy godmother number one Sarah Stow had to pull out when she was overcome with morning sickness. In stepped Jane Coffey, fairy godmother number two, who was making her acting debut, but she unfortunately succumbed to a winter illness and was unable to continue. One of the gnomes, Helen Williamson, had to pull out after she became poorly and needed an operation, but she made a speedy recovery and was recast as fairy godmother number three.

Gnome Greedy managed to fall off a treadmill just before Monday's dress rehearsal and broke her arm. But in the best traditions of the theatre, and because they were running out of gnomes, Greedy agreed to continue with an arm in plaster cast and now goes under the name of Gnome Clumsy.

"After much adversity, Campaign Amateur Theatre finally managed to raise the curtain on opening night on Thursday," said director Becky Green. "We were beset with illness and accidents, and it is a wonder that the panto ever got off the ground.

It was through sheer resourcefulness and incredible teamwork and that all-important 'the show must go on' spirit that we managed to pull everything together and produce such a wonderful show."
