The Ely Foodbank Partnership is hoping to pocket £7,000 with the help of the public.

It is asking local residents to vote for them in the Hopkins Homes Cambridgeshire Charity Vote, which is inviting the public to vote for one of six shortlisted organisations.

The three causes which receive the most support will be presented with donations of £7,000, £2,000 or £1,000, depending on the level of support they receive.

Alan Williams, a volunteer and Trustee of Ely Foodbank Partnership, said, “The vote is a fantastic opportunity for us to galvanise support from local residents for our work. We are already very grateful for the gifts of food and other contributions that local people make and would very much welcome any additional funding to help serve local people in food crisis.

The partnership, with its seven food banks, serves people in a 15 to 20 mile radius of Ely, from Chatteris and March in the west, to Downham Market in the north, Brandon in the east and down to the A14 in the south, serving more than 5,000 people in 2016.
