ELY-based Johnny Cash tribute band Cashback is set to recreate the late singer's legendary Folsom prison concert exactly 40 years to the day after the original performance.
Although more than 2,000 prisoners piled into the canteen for Cash's original Californian concert on January 13, 1968, only 100 prisoners at Highpoint Prison in Suffolk will be allowed to watch the performance.
"A prison officer said to me they don't allow too many prisoners to gather together any more, ever since Strangeways," said Cashback singer Lee Gillett.
The band, which has been together for two years, is made up from Lee, brother Mick, from Red Lodge and John Drake from Burwell.
Mr Gillett said: "We've just been getting off the ground in the last couple of years, so I wrote a letter to the prison speculatively not expecting anything to come of it, but the head of rehabilitation got in touch.
"Johnny Cash said 'show them some compassion and then they might show you some,' and that's exactly what we want to do.
