WINNERS of our Ely Standard Cash Giveaway packed the Market Street office on Thursday to be presented with their prizes.
Community groups from the villages around Ely were particularly well represented, as reporter Catherine Atkinson handed over more than 15,000 to the deserving groups. Haddenham Day Centre will be able to replace its vandalised minibus, Fenland Jam its ageing instruments, and Pymoor Archive Group can pay back money it spent on a video camera - just some of more than 25 organisations to benefit.
Catherine Atkinson, said: "It was a bit of a squash, but we were delighted to be able to welcome so many familiar and unfamiliar faces to the Ely Standard. It made us feel very proud to be part of a community which has so many small groups of volunteers doing work that so often falls under the radar. We hope that the money we have given out today will ease some of the day to day struggles that many small groups face and we look forward to celebrating their achievements in future."
*The grants were administrated by The Cambridgeshire Community Foundation. If you missed the Cash Giveawy deadline and would like to apply for a grant, visit www.ccf.co.uk
