An Ely charity that provides chair-based exercises and personal development programmes for the elderly has been given a £250 cash boost.

Pos+Ability received the donation from the company McCarthy and Stone, which built the Roslyn Court retirement development on Lisle Lane.

The money will go towards covering the costs of instructors, support assistants, equipment, rental costs, insurance, training, and office expenses.

Pos+Ability’s classes aim to support people who have survived a stroke, or are living with Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis as well as neurological illnesses.

Linda Neate, chairman, trustee and fundraiser for Pos+Ability, said: “Since we first started this organisation seven years ago with just six clients, it has become increasingly popular and we now run two classes in Ely, one in Littleport, two in Histon and one in Soham, supporting around 85 people.

“Our service is more than just exercise – we aim to give our clients the confidence that one day they will regain their independence.”
