A care worker has been suspended after a complaint that she allegedly accepted hundreds of pounds worth of cash and gifts from an elderly client.
The woman was called in to a meeting with her bosses at Sutton-based Bartram Home Care on Friday and asked to leave while a full investigation is carried out.
The company also called in the police and informed Cambridgeshire County Council social services and Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust, which employs the agency to run care packages for East Cambridgeshire residents in their own homes.
It has been alleged that the care worker accepted money and gifts, including jewellery and furniture, from an 82-year-old Ely man for whom she had been working.
Bartram Home Care director, Reg Young, said: "We are dealing with this matter internally.
"We have informed social services and the lady in question, who is a very good care worker, has been suspended following this allegation.
"If an allegation is made against any member of our staff we must investigate it. This is standard procedure.
"We have also informed Ely Police because of the way this information was received.
