THE owner of a car caught speeding has been left with a court bill for more than £400, because he was unable to tell the police who was driving at the time.

Keith Thompson, of Fordham Road, Soham, denied that he failed to give information about the driver's identity, saying he had no idea who was driving his Vauxhall on June 5 last year on the A14 at Stow Cum Quy.

But after magistrates found him guilty at Ely courthouse on Thursday, chairman Harvey Harrison told Thompson: "You are supposed to know who is driving you car at any point."

Thompson was fined £330 with £85 costs and a £15 surcharge, and three points were endorsed on his licence.
