A SMASHED up car from a road collision was on display in Ely city centre as part of a road safety event.

The crumpled vehicle was the centrepiece of the event which aims to stop people driving dangerously in icy conditions or getting behind the wheel while drunk this Christmas.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics were all in attendance.

Sue Loaker, community safety officer, said: “We hoped the event encouraged drivers to be sensible especially with the cold weather making road conditions treacherous.

“The smashed up car is a real eye opener for people and shows just how vulnerable you can be when involved in a collision.”
