Work to resurface 42 miles of road in Cambridgeshire will start this week.
A £5 million programme of work, which will see 43 sections of road resurfaced, started at the end of May in South Cambridgeshire and will continue in Huntingdonshire, Fenland and East Cambridgeshire throughout June.
The team will be using a new machine called the ‘Etnyre’. The only one of its kind in the country, it is wide enough to surface the entire width of road in one go.
As the work takes place, some roads will be closed from 8am until 6pm. The work is weather dependent as it needs to be dry for the resurfacing material to be applied, so thes dates are subject to change.
Advanced warning signs will be displayed before the work is due to start and diversions will be in place.
Councillor Mathew Shuter, Cambridgeshire County Council’s chairman of the highways and infrastructure committee, said: “The resurfacing work is part of our commitment to maintaining the county’s roads and will ensure smoother journeys and maintain safety.
“We are reliant on the weather for this type of work, which I appreciate makes it difficult for people to plan ahead, but the new machine will make the whole process faster and much more efficient.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience while the work is carried out.”
Letters will be delivered to residents and businesses directly affected by the work in advance.
Drivers should look out for the advance warning signs and keep up to date with information about the work on Twitter - Cambs_Traffic or CambsCC.
