Cambridgeshire County Council election day 2017 shall be remembered as the day in which the Conservatives swept the county – and it was no different in East Cambridgeshire.
The Tories took seven of the eight seats available in the district, with the Liberal Democrats’ Lorna Dupre taking the other in Sutton.
It was ‘as you were’ in seven of the eight divisions, with the only major change coming in Littleport, where Tory candidate David Ambrose-Smith took the seat from UKIP on what will be seen as a dark day for the party.
BURWELL
Cllr Schumann received 1,557 votes with Charlotte Cane of the Liberal Democrats taking 642.
Labour’s Liz Swift received 381, and Floramay Waterhouse, of the Green Party took 309 votes.

ELY NORTH
Lis Every will be Ely North’s representative at Cambridgeshire County Council for another four years after easing to victory at the polls today.
The former Mayor of Ely took 1,192 votes, 337 more than the Liberal Democrats’ Alison Whelan (855). Labour’s Mark Hucker received 370 votes.

ELY SOUTH
Anna Bailey has held her Cambridgeshire County Council seat for the Ely South division.
The Conservative candidate took 1,627 votes in the area which boasted the second largest turnout in East Cambridgeshire – 42.9 per cent.
Liberal Democrat candidate Christine Whelan received 1,368 votes, whilst Labour’s Rebecca Denness took 536.
Cllr Bailey told voters after her victory: “Thank you for voting for me. I will carry on working hard for you.”

LITTLEPORT
The Conservatives’ took full advantage of a lack of UKIP candidate in Littleport today by easing to victory in the Cambridgeshire County Council elections.
Tory candidate David Ambrose-Smith received 863 votes in a division had had the lowest turnout in all of East Cambridgeshire – just 22.6 per cent.
Labour’s Jane Frances received 355 votes, whilst Martin Seidel of the Liberal Democrats took 310.

SOHAM NORTH AND ISLEHAM
Paul Raynes took a huge majority to hold on to his seat at Cambridgeshire County Council.
The Conservative candidate received 1,504 votes – a whopping 1,108 more than Liberal Democrat candidate Rupert Moss-Eccardt, who took 396 votes.
Isobel Morris, of the Labour party finished just behind on 371. There was no UKIP candidate for this division.

Conservative candidate Bill Hunt has held his seat for the Soham South and Haddenham division.
Cllr Hunt took 1,828 votes – over 1,000 more than his nearest rival, Pauline Wilson of the Liberal Democrats. She took 826 votes.
Labour’s Lydia Hill received 320 votes, while Andy Cogan of the Green Party took 193.

SUTTON
Liberal Democrat candidate Lorna Dupre has held her seat at Cambridgeshire County Council, despite being run close by the Conservatives.
Councillor Dupre triumphed over rival Michael Bradley by 88 votes, taking 1,441 over the Conservatives’ 1,353.
Labour’s Christopher Horne received 355 votes and there was no UKIP candidate.

WOODDITTON
Conservative candidate Mathew Shuter eased to victory in Woodditton at the Cambridgeshire County Council elections today.
Cllr Shuter retains his seat by taking 1,676 votes – 909 more than Labour rival, Steven O’Dell (767).
Liberal Democrat candidate John Trapp received 426 votes.
