SUTTON was invited to enter the calor Village of the Year 10th Anniversary Awards as it had been overall winner of the title in 2002. There were six categories covering Community life, Business, Young People, Older People, the Environment and ICT. Judges visited the village last Tuesday when parish councillors took them on a tour, which enabled them to see activities at school, elderly members of the Triangle group enjoying lunch, board games and bingo and Sutton Bowlers during a match on the A11 Weather bowls green. The Elean Business park was visited along with Stankers Pond and the cricket ground. The judging party arrived at the newly completed Glebe community building where members of Sutton Youth Club entertained with a brilliant dance routine. Many clubs and societies had set up information stands in Glebe main hall and the judges visited each one in turn. The judging was filmed for a series to be shown later in the year on BBC TV. If Sutton is selected for the next round judges will visit again between July 10 and 18.
