ELY Air Cadets took delivery of their new mini-bus on Sunday, donated in memory of Corporal Graeme 'Ozzie' Austin.
The bus, which was has been named Ozzie, will take members of 1094 Squadron on a wide range of activities from hill walking, rock climbing and abseiling to white water canoeing and rifle shooting.
It was handed over following Ely's annual Battle of Britain parade and service and included a final cheque of £500 and a further £50 for fuel donated by Mrs Marion Austin, Ozzie's widow and grandmother of cadet, Simon Pitman.
Ozzie was a scoutmaster with the Air Scouts and during a long career with the Royal Air Force as a chef, had cooked for most members of the Royal Family and many foreign heads of state.
He was often asked to cook at Chequers, the Prime Minister's official country residence, and for the pilots of the famous Red Arrows aerobatics team.
The new mini bus in his memory was blessed by squadron chaplain, the Rev. Mark Amy and the keys handed to squadron commander Flight Lieutenant Nick Wilson.
The squadron's old minibus was recently donated to the charity Children In Distress and will be used initially in Scotland for fund-raising projects before being filled with shoeboxes containing Christmas gifts and driven to Romania.
After the gifts have been distributed, the minibus will be used for the benefit of the Romanian children.
Anyone between 13 and 18 interested in joining the squadron can contact Flight Lieutenant Alan Human on 01353 665331. The next recruitment evening is on September 27 at the squadron's HQ in Heaton Drive, Ely at 8pm.
