AFTER 21 years of being called UK Fixings (Southern Ltd) it was always going to be a challenge for the Ely-based firm to come up with a new name.
But keeping it a secret until the last minute was even more difficult said managing director Mark Read.
“The team knew we were rebranding and I wanted the name to really surprise them,” said Mark, who owns the specialist supplier of construction consumables and workwear.
“I wish I had bought a camera to catch the looks on people’s faces when we revealed the name ‘Whizzle’,” he added.
“We had every reaction imaginable, from wide-eyed shock through to uncontrollable laughter.”
Being part of a fast-paced industry, Mark told the Ely Standard that he chose the name Whizzle as he believes it has ‘movement’ and element of fun attached to it.
“Response to the name has been fantastic so far, with 90 per cent of customers responding positively about the change and either way it’s a hard name to forget. All the team absolutely love the name, the logo and the website and we are all looking forwards to the next 21 years.”
