MP Sir Jim Paice toured the proposed site of a new robotics workshop in Burwell.

The South East Cambridgeshire MP was guided around Armtrac, a company specialising in developing and building mine clearing equipment.

Sir Jim was accompanied by parliamentary candidate Lucy Frazer, councillors James Palmer and David Brown and East Cambridgeshire District Council’s business development manager Darren Hill.

Armtrac’s range of mining machines has been used all over the world, including Albania, Angola, Bosnia, Lebanon, Sudan and Iraq as well as for the clearance of Ministry of Defence firing ranges in the UK.

Armtrac recently applied for planning permission to build a new workshop to the west of its existing base.

The company says the proposed new premises will provide a sterile and clean environment to manufacture and assemble the electronic and robotic equipment associated with the production of its new ‘Armtrac 20T’, a fully remote controlled vehicle.

Sir Jim said: “I continue to be impressed by the range and quality of equipment which Armtrac produces, right from the smallest robot to the largest. This is very much the sort of manufacturing-led business we’re keen to promote to encourage the growth of our economy.”
