TV gardener Tommy Walsh launched a groundbreaking new recycling scheme at the Donarbon site on Ely Road on Monday.
The scheme, which is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, will charge Donarbon customers for the amount of waste they dispose of, and not include the recycled waste.
Mr Walsh, who is well-known for his eco-tendencies since he built an environmentally-friendly home in March, said: "I am glad to see councils and private waste companies working together to help companies recycle more of their waste."
Councils from across the county received a grant from BREW (Business Resource Efficiency and Waste) to fund the project.
Donarbon's managing director, Mark Davenport, said: "We are happy to work with all the councils in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to recycle all types of waste in the county.
