Are you a new business which has been going since January 1 2015? If the answer is yes then you are eligible to enter the new business category in the Ely Business Awards.

Whoever picks up this award, which is sponsored by Cambridge Commodities, at our presentation ceremony in October will be following in the footsteps of Rx Guidelines who were last year’s winners.

The judges, in picking them for the prize said: “RX Guidelines have developed medical software solutions which has a huge global potential for innovative mobile applications.

“This small business comprising of four people who have never run a business before combines software expertise with commercial knowledge to ensure the growth and sustainability of the business.”

The New Business of the Year is open to any company of any size, including sole traders, that have been set up since January 1 2015. It does not have to be registered for VAT.

The site is an impressive 100,000 sq ft, designed around core processes and is optimised to enable each department to deliver exceptional customer service. The warehouse is capable of holding 10,000 pallet bays and natural light combined with energy-saving LED sensor-activated bulbs significantly reduces our energy usage.

Cambridge Commodities has grown significantly in recent years turning over £30m in 2014 to £37m last year. European sales have grown from £300k in 2011 to an impressive £7m last year. In addition to this Cambridge Commodities was ranked 36 on HSBC’s International Track 200 2015. More recently, and was named in the London Stock Exchange’s 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain as well as winning two local business awards: International Trade Champion and Medium Business of the Year. Cambridge Commodities plans to continue growth by focusing on developing the European market and product innovation.
