Entrepreneurs Andy Shovel and Peter Sharman are bringing their four year-old gourmet home delivery burger operation Chosen Bun to Ely.
The business, started in Fulham but now expanding outside of London, will move into one of the remaining units on the £16 million Ely leisure park in Downham Road.
The partners launched their business following a burger tasting mission to the USA eating at least three burgers a day in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
At the end of 2012, they went on a burger tasting mission to USA.
Andy said: “We inhaled at least three burgers per day each for 10 days in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Naples.
Andy said that over a 10 month period they tasted around 1,000 beef patties to find the correct flavour and texture.
“We also chomped our way through 10 different types of lettuce, 12 types of pickled gherkin, dozens of different buns, 30 different onion ring recipes and 50 triple-cooked chip recipes,” he said.
Their move to Ely was announced by Turnstone Estates and their funding partner Standard Life Investments.
The company joins Arbuckles, Cineworld, McDonalds, Costa Coffee, Frankie & Benny’s, Hungry Horse and KFC, in taking space at the centre that is due for opening at the end of April.
Two restaurant units remain available, which comprise 3,315 sq ft and 1,001 sq ft respectively.
Main contractor RG Carter Projects began construction in April 2016 and is undertaking a phased handover of units to tenants during the next two months.
The leisure park sits on a 6.5 acre site by the A10 at Downham Road and includes a six-screen Cineworld cinema, four in-line restaurants, two drive-thru units, a further solus unit and 380 car parking spaces, together with an underpass.
