ALEX Andrews has joined LG Car Sales in Littleport as the company's business development manager.

The business is run by his father and Trevor Bailey, who are directors.

Alex spent his years after a Cambridge University law degree buying gadgets for the website play.com and is now putting his technological skills to good use at LG. He is in the process of making all cars available to view online and he also sells some cars and vans via e-Bay to buyers from further afield.

"It's just a case of streamlining the vast amount of paperwork in the auto business, turning antiquated systems into an operational database" says Alex.

"Trevor and my father have a long history of expertise in the car business, but I'm just coming from a new angle. We're not wide boy car salesmen, there's not an Arthur Daley coat in sight and all cars sold have three-month in-house warranty, a full service and a year's MOT. Occasionally used motorbikes and vans come on the forecourt but the main business is in cars.

"We've moved from having 20 vehicles when Dad and Trevor started on the Wisbech Road to 200 on our forecourt now", said Alex.

"My role often encompasses reminding them to check their email but on a more serious note it's great to be able to have the facility for people to ask questions about their cars via the website, or to browse our available cars online before they come and see us. We have something for everyone, from your hundred-pound run-around car to more prestigious Audi and Nissans models at around £17-18,000. Our full range of cars will be viewable online by the end of the month and most are already uploaded."

Now in its 17th year of operation, the business is at the Saxon Business Park on the A10 between Littleport and Ely Their forecourt is directly next to the A10, "in between the croissants of the Delice de France depot and the Lizard House" says Alex, "so theoretically you could pick up pets and continental breakfast here as well as a new car."

LG Car Sales continues to have strong links with the community sports around Littleport.

For several years the business has sponsored the Littleport Bowls Club and the Korfball team Littleport Lions will have LG's name on their shirts when the season starts in November. Alex, who plays for the team, points out this as relevant to the modernising of the company. "Korfball's a relatively new sport in the UK which has really taken off in the Fens."
