A group of warehouses in Stretham that were gutted when a fire spiralled out of control could be pulled down and replaced.
In June, nine fire crews from across Cambridgeshire were called to an industrial unit occupied by haulage firm Masters Logistical in Ely Road which caught fire and quickly spread.
The A10 was closed from Ely to Stretham for more than four hours while crews battled the blaze, which laid waste to several warehouses. It was later discovered that the fire started accidentally.
This week, the owner of the units, Francoise Goad, applied to East Cambridgeshire District Council for permission to replace the fire-damaged warehouses, which formerly service as agricultural grain stores, with purpose-built storage warehouses for haulage firm Masters Logistical.
In its application, Mrs Goad noted: “The project involves replacing a fire damaged warehouse building converted from a former grain store.
“The new building is to be erected to the same scale and building footprint, but updated with newer building materials.”
As part of the plans, the existing asbestos cladding will be replaced with composite metal, with the asbestos roofing also set to be dismantled and replaced with a metal construction.
