Local company G's Fresh showcases its finest produce to the Prime Minister at exclusive Downing Street Food Market

Prime Minister David Cameron was treated to Ely company G's Fresh's finest produce as part of the Downing Street Food Market.
The event, part of the GREAT Britain campaign to drive UK exports, saw leading food and drink companies from across the country, including G’s Fresh, show off their best produce at a food market held at Number 10 this week.
G’s, on Barway Road, put on a spread of produce such as lettuces and mushrooms for the Prime Minister to feast on.
The local company travelled to London to join the PM and Environment Secretary and South West Norfolk MP, Elizabeth Truss, in supporting Cameron’s mission to keep Britain in the European Union ahead of the referendum on June 23.
Chairman of G’s Fresh, David Shropshire, believes that leaving the EU would threaten businesses’ ability to trade.
He said: “Our business depends on the free, open, and liberal markets of the EU. It is thanks to the Single Market that we can guarantee the quality of our produce, its speed and simplicity of delivery, and its value for money for consumers.
“Leaving the EU would threaten our access to the EU single market, imperil the peaceful political environment of the past 30 years, and raise the costs of imported food for British households.”
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “This week I was proud to host some of the finest food and drink producers from across Britain. Their products are popular not just here but across Europe and many of them do significant amounts of trade with the continent. But leaving the EU will rob them of the level playing field and the free access to trade that they currently have.
“British food and drink manufacturers I met are clear that they don’t want to gamble their businesses and their employees’ livelihoods on the roll of a dice that leaving the EU would be.”
MP Elizabeth Truss echoed the Prime Minister’s beliefs. She said: “I was delighted to see some of our world class products showcased this week at Downing Street and hear how these products are being enjoyed on dinner tables on the Continent and across the world.
“The food and drink producers that make up this thriving industry benefit from access to the easy and tariff free single market in Europe and it’s 500 million consumers and there is no doubt that these businesses are safer, stronger and better off being part of the European union.”
Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge also prepared a meal at the event using the products on display to show what home-produced food and drink has to offer the world.
