Michell Instruments Ltd is a “truly impressive company”, said the judges, who praised its profit growth, investment in research and plans for expansion.

The company, based on the Lancaster Way Business Park, is an international leader in high-precision sensing, specialising in instrumentation for dew point, relative humidity and oxygen analysis.

It serves industries ranging from petrochemical to pharmaceutical and food processing.

The judges said: “Michell Instruments is a truly impressive company that has acquired and developed a range of specialist technologies using them to carve out a special niche for itself in the market.

“Investing heavily in research and development, this last year has seen significant sales and profit growth along with several new product launches.

“Operating throughout the world, with 90 per cent of its business in exports, this company has ambitious growth plans which it will surely achieve.”
