Anglian Water has apologised after a burst water main caused an estimated 2,000 homes to go without water in East Cambridgeshire.

Residents in Haddenham, Sutton and Wilburton were all affected by the main which burst this morning (7), with Sutton Primary School having to close for the day.

A spokesman for Anglian Water says the company was forced to reroute part of its network and even deliver water bottles to schools and vulnerable people while the main was being repaired.

A spokesman said: “We’re sorry customers in and around the Haddenham, Wilburton and Sutton areas may have experienced low water pressure or had no water this so far today. This was because of a burst main nearby which we’ve been working hard to repair since the early hours of this morning.

“Our teams were able to reroute water from other parts of the network to keep as many people’s taps running as possible, and we delivered bottled water to a number of schools and those on our WaterCare register, which is for customers in vulnerable circumstances.

“We’re pleased to say the repair has now been completed and things should be back to normal within the hour. When customers first turn on the tap the water may look cloudy or discoloured. This is just millions of tiny air bubbles and running the tap for a couple of minutes should clear it. Equally, cloudy water should also clear gradually if you leave the water to stand for a short time.

“We’re very sorry for any inconvenience caused and grateful to customers for their understanding and patience today.”
