A BURGLAR’s DNA was found on a cider can left behind after more than �5,000 worth of electrical items were stolen from an office.
Jason Nelmes had previously carried out odd jobs at Silverley Hall in Ashley, and burgled the outbuilding office between August 23 and 26, he admitted to Ely magistrates.
But Nelmes had denied that he ever went into the office during the burglary- he claims that an accomplice went inside, and he waited outside and then assisted with the removal of the stolen cameras, computers and lenses.
Police found some of the stolen items at his home, and a cannabis plant was found growing in an airing cupboard. Nelmes has since handed back more stolen property, the court was told.
The 37-year-old, of Silverley Way, Ashley, admitted burglary and cultivating a cannabis plant.
He was given a two-month suspended jail sentence, along with a supervision order and two month curfew. He must pay �1,500 compensation and �85 costs.
