FRUIT, flowers and vegetables brought the countryside to Ely Cathedral at the weekend for its annual harvest festival.

This year's theme was the Water of Life, celebrating the vital role water has played in the development of the fens and food production.

The National Farmers' Union linked up with local organisations and companies to showcase the wide variety of produce grown in the fens.

Visitors were able to find out about bee keeping, talk to local farmers and tackle a food quiz. Baby chicks proved a big hit with younger visitors.

The harvest festival opened on Saturday and continued through to Sunday's harvest Songs of Praise.

Pupils at the Ely's King's Junior School held their own service on Thursday bringing fruit, flowers, vegetables and tinned produce to add to the displays.

On Monday there was a sale of harvest produce and proceeds will go to the rural charity, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Rural Support Group.
