ELY will be the Cambridgeshire venue for BBC's Guinness Book of Records attempt to have the most number of people dancing a set routine at the same time.

Locations have been selected up and down the country and it is hoped that 80,000 people will participate in the Big Dance nationally.

Jubilee Gardens is the place to be if you want to be part of this televised event. The BBC are working with the Arts Council, BBC Radio stations and location organisers to put on this national event on Saturday.

At 11.30 am dance coach Diccon Hogger will be putting dance groups through their paces to learn the routine before the public join them at 12.30 pm. The dance, which only takes 10 minutes, is suitable for all ages and abilities so there is no reason why anybody should take part.

Radio Cambridgeshire will be broadcasting live throughout lunchtime in the gardens and the 10-minute routine (and possibly more) from 12.30 pm to 12.40 pm will be recorded. Clips from all the locations will form part of a show on BBC that evening. The programme, presented by Bruce Forsyth, will appear in two parts - an hour show before Casualty and half an hour after Casualty.

Tracey Harding, tourism and events officer at East Cambs District Council, said: "This is fantastic news for Ely and the district and I hope everyone will want to be part of it.

"It is an excellent promotional opportunity and we hope that people will see what a lovely city we live in and come and visit us."

The response from local dance groups to help kick off this event has been overwhelming and it shows what great community involvement we can achieve.
