During the visit, which was part of the Cambridgeshire Music’s Schools’ programme, Britten Sinfonia used a French horn, piano, violin, cello and flute to turn the classic story of ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ by Lewis Carroll into a musical journey.

In the days running up to the performance, the children were introduced to the poem ‘Jabberwocky’. They used a variety of different media to create their own imaginative Jabberwocks.

After watching the performance, each of the four classes in Year 2 took part in workshops where the children were given the opportunity to meet the players, learn more about their musical repertoire and take part in some fun and creative games.

Yasmin Bean, music teacher, said: “This was such an exciting, inspiring day for our Year One and Two pupils.

“We are very grateful to Britten Sinfonia for spending the day with us.

“After the workshops the children said ‘the music was amazing’ and ‘when I grow up I want to be an artist or a musician.”
