A BRAVE Fenland youngster’s dream came true this week when he was the VIP guest of boyband JLS at one of their latest gigs.

Six-year-old Harvey Hopkin, of Welney, who is in renal failure, met the band before their gig in Nottingham on Tuesday before enjoying a front-seat view of their concert.

Harvey’s mum Karen said: “He hasn’t come down from the ceiling yet. They were just fantastic.

“We would both like to thank Eileen, the band’s PA, and our friends Mark, Michelle and Joe for making a little boy’s dream possible.

“Also, a big thank you to JLS for a fantastic show and meeting with Harvey and I beforehand.”

Harvey has been a fan of JLS - Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Jonathan “JB” Gill, and Orits Williams - since the band were contestants on the X-Factor in 2008. They finished runners-up to Alexandra Burke.

Karen said: “He knows all their songs and sings to them through a karaoke machine.

“But Aston is his favourite. He always has to have his hair the same way as him - if I spike up his hair he always flattens it because that’s the way Aston has his.”

Harvey had seen the band perform once before, at the Peterborough Festival in July last year.

Karen said: “We tried to get tickets to meet JLS in Peterborough but unfortunately we were unable to. However, it just so happened that a friend is Simon Cowell’s PA and arranged for us to meet the band before their gig on Tuesday through Eileen.

“We met the band before the concert and Harvey got a program signed by all four boys. We also had tickets for the third row in the stand, but Eileen got us seats in a row near the front which we had to ourselves.”

Karen added: “The show was out of this world. The pyrotechnics were fantastic and at one point the boys sat in a Cadillac car suspended above the audience.”

Harvey regularly visits Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment but Karen said he just takes it all in his stride.

She said: “He’s everything he shouldn’t be. They say children with kidney failure are low on energy and quite lethargic, but Harvey is like a little Tasmanian Devil. Nothing phases him.

“He is an inspiration for everybody because, despite everything he goes through, he still has a real zest for life.”
